According to the IRS website (see link below), the deadline to file 2008 tax return is April 17, 2012. After seeing your post, I almost gave up finishing my tax 2008 to get back a few thousands in overpaid Capital Gain tax. I'm glad I googled some more and found the abcnews tax article, which points to the IRS kink below:
http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/ar...

Re: No Passport If You Owe IRS $50,000+?

This bill has already passed the senate. Please contact your representatives in congress and instruct them to vote no for senate bill 1813 before it is too late.

If you do not act now soon some ignorant socialist congressman will introduce a law to take away your drivers license for some frivolous reason. They may revoke your drivers license if you do not pay your student loan. Seriously it will happen if this bill becomes law.

Also instruct your representatives to vote no for any bill that limits freedom for Americans.

Everyone knows the problem with the deficit is spending. You could take away everyone's passport and driving license and you still would not be able to fix the deficit.

These soviet style tactics of limiting peoples freedom is going to backfire. As was in the other repressive societies the wealthy and middle class people will just leave the USA permanently and start paying their taxes to another country that does not have soviet style repression. As you should know this is already happening. Many wealthy and middle class people are already leaving the USA.

This bill is causing stress and strife in the country and polarizing the American people. This is never a good situation.

Please instruct your representatives to focus on the problem of spending and stop these repressive tactics that accomplish nothing but the polarization of the people.

Seriously soon some ignorant socialist congressman will attempt to take away the drivers licenses of the American people for some frivolous reason that will accomplish nothing and further erode American values and pride.

There is an ever growing erosion of American pride and an ever increasing embarrassment of being American. Bills and laws that limit American freedom and erode American pride are making the USA the laughing stock of the world.

When I see attachments to bills like the one giving the IRS power to suspend or revoke an Americans right to travel it makes me sick. It makes me feel embarrassed to be an American. Please try to stop the politicians from destroying our country.

Also Instruct your representatives to initiate a bill that makes the ability to travel a right and not just a privilege so the politicians will never be able to do this repressive act in the future. I don't want the government of my country to be able to limit travel and control Americans like other repressive governments. I want to be free and proud of my country the USA.

Also please instruct your congressman to talk to other congressman to stop this bill from becoming law.

The link to contact your representative. https://writerep.house.gov/wri...

After waiting two months I started to get a little worried I had been another victim of I.D. theft. I called the local I.R.S. and they ensured me that my refund was being processed and going to the right bank account information. Then they told me it will be another six to eight weeks to receive my refund. This is crazy. Thank you Uncle Sam. It's like waiting for a crackhead to pay you back. Its not gonna happen soon or even at all.

Re: IRS Delaying Refunds For Early Filers

I'm also in the same boat as you. I've become disabled and my wife and I filed Jan 28. I also got the same notice. After hours on the phone they told me that the reason for holding my refund was to see if we owed any outstanding taxes! I cross checked and we don't! The IRS is just sitting on our money earning money while screwing us!

Re: IRS Delaying Refunds For Early Filers

I live in Oregon and became a widow last year. I was expecting my refund, not a large amount, by the middle of March, but instead received a letter stating that I would not receive my refund for at least 45 days, if at all, due to reviews in my filing. I had to pay nearly half of the amount of my refund out of my meager funds to my CPA in order to file, and now will not even be reimbursed with my own money. Nothing changed in my filing except the decrease in my income due to my husband's death. Not feeling the love for my government right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 7 Tax Tips: Standard Deduction Vs. Itemized Deduction

From my experience as a tax preparer I find that people who do not own property think that they do not qualify for itemizing their deductions. This is not necessarily true. If you are
married and have children claimed, you could have high medical expenses ( for you, your husband, and children) which can be claimed in figuring if you have more then the standard deduction. Remember medical expenses are adjusted down by 7.5% of income for the computation. Its best to seek a professional.
If you incurred losses from Hurricane Irene, you may qualify for a deduction which could become another itemized deduction.
Unreimbursed business expenses are another flow through itemized deduction. Don't forget job hunting expenses, especially in this day and age.

Re: 4 Tips: Unemployment Benefits

Now you can go online to retrieve your 1099 -G for NY unemployment received.
It is available online for your convenience.Go to https://ui.labor.state.ny.us/U...

So the people who make over $10,000,000 per year are less likely to be audited then people who make $100,000 per year. Now that is an eye opener. I would say that the government should let the middle class recover and give them some breathing room.

Re: Changing the Capital-Gains Tax, Fairly

The argument that we should should tax profits at the date of death is a valid one. I believe we used to have an estate tax in place until the "powers to be" decided that was not good for them. In turn they raised the level for requiring tax filings on a decedents estate.

Why can't we all play nicely in the sand box? The simple solution is always the best. People who work should pay taxes. If you are generating passive income, there should be a formula to determine base compensation as earned income. Then people like Mitt Romney would pay their fair share of taxes.

Mr Romney, are you listening? Let us start by prohibiting these off shore accounts. Enough of trying to hide assets from the government. I thought the name of the game was defer when available and accelerate deductions when controllable?

Time to revisit the tax code and start tinkering again. Its a vicious cycle.

Re: Arizona Bills Amazon.com $53 Million

This is a long time coming. People are selling huge amounts of goods and only some of the companies report the tax liability. Some probably collect the sales tax, but do they turn the money over to the state or just pocket it? I think that by setting up these "arrangements" whereby a company through their affiliates, pays a commission to the affiliate or partner, allows the states to lay claim that there is a "physical presence" of that company in their state and those goods should be subject to sales tax.

This concept of all sales on the internet should not be taxable, has to be readdressed. There is a difference between a hobby and a business.

This is just my opinion. I don't want small businesses to suffer any more then they are now.
The big companies need to stand up and do the right thing. What was that Spock saying from Startrek?

Re: IRS Rains On Giant’s Antrel Rolle’s Parade

Now after reading this article, all he had to do was pay the fine and interest?
